Websites and Web-to-Print

Computer-and-PearlsLet’s face it.  If you have a static website that hasn’t been updated in over a year, you’re in trouble.

Today, if you don’t have a functional, informative website with online ordering capability for your customers, your business is in jeopardy. Even in rural and small town markets, your customers can order print from any number of online vendors at low prices and with delivery times that are “quick enough.”  You may think that your customers are loyal. You may be dead wrong.

Any printer who hopes to remain in business for long needs, at bare minimum, a website that is easy to update (a content management system or CMS site) with file transfer and web-to-print capability. Web-to-print, essentially a dedicated online ordering system, is increasingly expected by larger customers, and it’s an absolute necessity if you want to keep existing customers from slipping away.  Print industry guru Scott Cappel calls web-to-print the “velvet handcuffs.”  At the very least, providing your customers with an easy way to order business cards and other frequently used products can “lock them in.”  At best, you may be able to create a new and profitable business niche by becoming an internal fulfillment center for one or several of your customers.

A CMS website is a bare minimum for print providers.

What can DP Marketing do for you?

First, we’re not going to reinvent the wheel or develop an expensive, custom system that no one but us can figure out. There are several website and web-to-print developers that offer highly functional and customizable templated systems for printing companies.  We’ll help you choose the package that best fits the needs of your business and your customers.  Then, we’ll customize and develop your new website to reflect your company, and train your team to use it. We can help with a plan to introduce your customers to  new online services and to “build out” their ordering sites. We’ll suggest the best way to integrate your new services with your business and production workflows.  Finally, DP Marketing Services can work with you to create a system to keep your website current and use it at the center of all of your marketing efforts.

Can you do this all by yourself?

Sure. But is DIY the best solution? To build out a templated website requires between 60 and 80 hours of dedicated time. What’s the chances of this project getting bogged down in your shop? Probably pretty good. If you’d rather have a system that’s up and running, DP Marketing can help.
